(Western Region Education Sharing Team)

History of W.R.E.S.T.

In 1984, the W.R.E.S.T. group established regular meting agendas and met at the CHR in Buffalo.

Initial Plants who formed the W.R.E.S.T. group were Harrison Radiator-UAW 686, CPC Tonawanda-UAW 846, and Tonawanda Forge-UAW 846. In late 1984, two more plants were added: Saginaw Buffalo-UAW 424 and Harrison Buffalo-UAW 634. Growth continued in 1985, with Rochester Products-UAW 1097, UAW-Gm Region 9 HRC and Fisher Guide-UAW 854. 1986 saw the addition of Central Foundry-UAW 465 and Delco Products-IUE 509. Finally in 1990, CPC Linden Assembly-UAW 595 and Inland Fish Guide Trenton-UAW 731 joined the ranks of W.R.E.S.T.

As time moved forward the the W.R.E.S.T. group begain feeling the brunt of the many plant closings, sales, spin offs, consolidations and name changes within the GM Corporation. Results of this action also took a toll on the W.R.E.S.T. group size but not its effect on a responsible, effective resource to the UAW/GM organizations.
