Connecting school to work

Massena School

Tech Prep Class of 2004

The Massena Plant is a partner with the Massena High School's Tech Prep program. Tech Prep is a 2 year program that gives students a chance to experience real life skills and learn to work successfully in teams. Students take integrated courses in computer skills, math and english. Other topics include developing communication skills, research skills and team projects.

The Massena Plant provides a financial contribution to Tech Prep, as well as site visits, tours, job shadowing careers in the plant and work with students on a major case study. We try to stress that cooperation and team work is the key to success.

GM Case Study

2004
Tech Prep students from Massena High School, under the guidance of two graduate students from Clarkson University, will spend time at Massena GM Powertrain and use their experience to research and develop a way to conserve water at the GM Powertrain plant by using various energy efficient resources. There are various pieces of information that will need to be determined in order to come up with a feasible recommendation for this problem.

GM would like the Tech Prep team to contribute by investigating the following items:

Determine gallons of water dispensed per minute from various locations throughout the plant.
Determine total locations of major water consumption areas.
Determine length time when most water is being used.
Determine usage of potable water and amount of potable water used for processes within the plant
.
